Since her first novel (Bittersweet) in 1983, Nevada Barr has seen her renown grow, especially amongst fans of the mystery genre. Considering the fact that Pigeon, the protagonist of the series, is a United States National Park Service Law Enforcement Ranger, it is clear that Nevada Barr’s time in the environmental movement greatly impacted her literary efforts.īarr eventually became a park ranger but had to resign from the job in order to write her books. It was while she was working in Guadalupe Mountains National Park in Texas that she created Anna Pigeon, the series for which she is best known. Her husband at the time was a big part of the reasons that drove her into the environmental movement. For a time, she was drawn to the environmental movement, this driving her to work in the National Park service. Barr would spend the next several years working in the entertainment arena, not only on stage but in commercials for TV and radio.
